Equifax Premier League Credit Ratings

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Football isn’t immune from the recession. According to credit ratings from Equifax at the end of last season, 11 of the 2008/9 premier league clubs are technically insolvent, with Liverpool not far off either.  Interestingly Chelsea are rated as technically insolvent too. Watch out for some interesting happenings this year

Ballet

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

It’s not Covent Garden, it’s not even in London, but today I’m going to see third niece dancing in Copelia with the English Youth Ballet. She’s in two of the four acts and plays a friend of Swanilda (the main part) and takes part in the Prayer dance. She is dancing on pointe in both acts. She has been rehearsing every day for the last four weeks.

It’s a full length ballet, and the idea is to give young amateur dancers the chance to perform alongside professionals and get an idea of what it’s like to take part in a ballet production.

This has nothing to do with making money, business, finance or complaining, so I shouldn’t really be posting it here. But what the hell, I’m very proud, and it’s a lot more impressive than anything I ever did in my school holidays

Sweet Billy Pilgrim

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Yet another (probably futile) attempt to encourage people to listen to something other than reality show pap and cliched songwriting, but whatever …

At the moment this is the first thing I listen to every morning. By happy coincidence, it’s also been nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize. Of course, I actually managed to pick the winner last year, although I’m not so confident that this year I’m backing the winning horse, but this would be my choice.

Benefit Busters

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Watching this on the telly right now.

“I couldn’t possibly take that job, who would walk my dog”

“If you were all so desparate for work, you’d be queueing up outside Burger King, KFC and MacDonalds”

“There isn’t one of you who couldn’t walk out of this room and get a job tomorrow and that is a fact”

“I turned down a job as a DJ because the hours weren’t right”

All about a company paid by the government to try and get people back into work and a group of women on benefits they are training. It’s shocking how little self confidene these people have and how simple it is for people to live on benefits in this country.

Anyone else seen it ?

How Much Do You Value Your Time?

I’m not sure I’d go as far as this guy ….

Lots to look at elsewhere on this site, including Twitter Stats and Mountains Out Of Molehills, but it was the Billion Dollar Gram that really caught my eye.

I’d love it, just love it, if these guys made headway against the suit-wearing chimpanzees in the next election …

Newcastle

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

You’ve seen me predict on this blog that Newcastle were going into meltdown and were likely candidates for relegation. After seeing them on the telly yesterday afternoon I revise that view. I thought they had a lot of fight and pride about them and played well in places. They didn’t look like a team about to give up on itself. Surprisingly some of the players seemed to be saying we owe this club and we’ll show everyone who’s written us off.

However, the squad’s thin, and they’ve left it far too late to make any signings. They needed to get Shearer in weeks ago, move some players on and add to the squad. Would expect them to lose a few players from the team who were out yesterday

MY PREDICTION : Upper to mid table but not quite enough to make the playoffs.

Your predictions ?
