All the press talk around MP’s expenses and the like is pure distraction. This is the real issue we should be facing. Our public finances have deteriorated badly. Government spending has gone up while tax take has gone down dramatically. The government has borrowed more in the last couple of months than it did all last year

The next prime minister of this country will have to put this right and will be the most unpopular leader since Mrs Thatcher. And any action is being sacrificed until after the next election because it is electorally unpopular.
