One from last week …

Spotify

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I’m not a big fan (understatement) of the new wizard wheeze of “renting” music, but I’ve finally given in to temptation and started dabbling with Spotify.

I don’t see this ever becoming a replacement for my CD collection or iPod. I’m not always in reach of a decent wifi point and the quality definitely dips over a 3G connection. The idea of paying a tenner a month for an ad-free service certainly doesn’t appeal. On the other hand, with a reasonably quick internet connection the free service is much better than (say) commercial radio, where I have to listen to a lot of tosh as well as the ads.

The big win for me, though, is the resurrection of “try before you buy”. I used to use All Of MP3 for this, but Spotify seems, for the moment at least, to be a suitable replacement.

Oh and of course now I can follow all those tweets containing Spotify links. Hurrah! ;-)
