This is who third auntie and third niece are going to see tonight

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EquKmt_Bip4&feature=related

By rights he shouldn’t even be well known. One of 11 children of a truck driver, he grew up poor in Cuba, ran away from ballet school because he preferred hip hop, was forced to go back by his father, and the rest is history. First noticed when he went on an exchange to Italy, when he took part in the Prix de Lausanne, didn’t know what on earth was going on and won a gold medal at the age of 17. He  is now the most famous dancer in the world, and today’s Nureyev or Brashnikov.

Toxic Bachelor

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Well, we got one good discussion going, see if we can get another one.

I loved this article.

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/love-sex/men-women/sex-addict-confessions-of-a-toxic-bachelor-1813573.html

Now you’ve read it, what are your thoughts. Is this a geezer who has played the field and then settled down ? Or is there a bit of an addict in all of us ?

Ballet

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

It’s not Covent Garden, it’s not even in London, but today I’m going to see third niece dancing in Copelia with the English Youth Ballet. She’s in two of the four acts and plays a friend of Swanilda (the main part) and takes part in the Prayer dance. She is dancing on pointe in both acts. She has been rehearsing every day for the last four weeks.

It’s a full length ballet, and the idea is to give young amateur dancers the chance to perform alongside professionals and get an idea of what it’s like to take part in a ballet production.

This has nothing to do with making money, business, finance or complaining, so I shouldn’t really be posting it here. But what the hell, I’m very proud, and it’s a lot more impressive than anything I ever did in my school holidays

The Secret & The Law of Attraction

Anyone seen this film ? I keep hearing about it ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_(2006_film)

What do you reckon ? Are these powerful learnings which can be applied by anyone ? Or the end of critical thought in the 21st century, and  a load of tosh peddled about by charlatans ?

Have your say

Reality TV

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

There are only 2 reality TV shows that I will watch

1. Ladettes to Ladies

2. The Apprentice

If you’ve ever seen Ladettes to Ladies it’s hilarious. They take 8 binge drinking out of control ladettes and send them to finishing school where they learn to be ladies, and each week one is eliminated. If they have been good they are allowed to spend an evening at the pub usually with hilarious consequences.

The Apprentice is slightly difference. It has become a bit more formulaic and isn’t so much a show about business talent any more. Will be interesting to see if there is a different slant on it this time round. SirAllun’s business empire can’t be going that well, and now he’s out of Amstrad and mainly in property he can’t have been having that good a time of it. And also, it will be interesting to see what plans they have in place to counter people who are playing the game.

Here’s the link to the new candidates

Based on the profiles, I fancy one of the girls to win this time round. Maybe Kate or Kimberley, with Rocky and Yasmina being outside bets.

What do you reckon ?

Satanic Verses

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

And now for something completely different …

I’m not sure why this story is topical enough to be linked to on the BBC News front page – is it perhaps 20 years since the bookburners decided to make themselves look a bit stupid, perhaps?

Anyway, coincidentally I finished reading The Satanic Verses only a couple of weeks ago. Given my preference for story over literary style, content over form, I was expecting to be underwhelmed. As it turns out, I really enjoyed it and next time I’m collecting books to take on my next holiday, I intend to pick up at least one more book by Mr Rushdie.

So – has anyone else read it, and if so what did you think?

Christmas Number 1 Contender…?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Let’s all forget this battle between Jeff Buckley and X-Factor Lady for christmas number one, surely this version of “Halleluja” will take the title this year…

…or not :-)

Does his mother know that he’s out ?

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

I’ve created a new category for this post - CULTURE

So the X-factor semis are over. What did we learn ?

1. Eoighan was hilarious. He was distraught for around 20 minutes when Diana got voted out. If you noticed, when he was singing does your mother know, none of the dancers stood or danced next to him so as you wouldn’t see that he’s a 10 year old midget.

2. There is no way they are sh@ggin – he hasn’t reached puberty yet

3. The one singer with a bit of orignality, who is a little bit different is out. But I won’t miss her interviews. What an annoying accent.

4. It would be a travesty if anyone but Alexandra won now.

5. I bet mingey and geek boy watch this in secret
